Hotel Gran Bahía ****

Mallorca, a paradise at your feet

Can Picafort is situated in the biggest bay of the Balearic Islands, between two natural parks and extensive beaches of fine, white sand and crystal-clear waters.

This coastal community in the north of Majorca belongs to the municipality of Santa Margarita, where you will find the beach areas of Son Serra de Marina and Can Picafort, the latter being the largest and busiest area for habitants and visitors, making it a perfect holiday destination for families and couples surrounded by beautiful beaches and great paradisal beauty.

What’s more, Santa Margarita was the first town of this municipality and maintains its features as an inland village of Mallorca.

What is there to see and do in Can Picafort?

We recommend a few places of interest close to the Hotel Gran Bahía:

S’Albufera Natural Park

Declared a natural park and a special bird protection area, the S’Albufera Natural Park of Mallorca can be freely accessed. Here you can visit the park’s bird observatory and enjoy a pleasant walk within its natural beauty. Additionally, el Parc de S’Albufera offers signposted routes that you can follow by bike or even by hiking. There are 4 routes available: Des Colobars, Sa Roca, Sa Cibollar and Camino d’Enmig – Ses Puntes.

The Public Estate of Son Real

The best way to get to know the traditions and customs of this ancient coastal village is to take a visit to the Public Estate of Son Real, an ancient Mallorca-owned area of land located in the municipality of Santa Margarita which dates back to 1900 BC. Son Real is a reference to the archaeological heritage of the Balearic Islands, where you can discover a great number of archaeological sites. Without a doubt this is one of the recommended things to do in Can Picafort..

"Illot des Porros"

The famous Illot des Porros is a small islet located 100m from the coast, facing the Son Real cemetery where you can observe 3 big graves. In the past, they were funeral rooms dating back to the 5th century BC and their walls were formed from blocks of stone. We recommend you swim to the islet, as it is only 65m from the mainland.

Sculptures by Joan Bennàssar

On the shores of the sea surrounding the Can Picafort coast, you will see installations of amazing hand-crafted art sculptures by the artist Joan Bennàssar, born in Pollença, who freely shares his art to inhabitants and visitors alike. Four sculptural collections have been installed in different beachfront locations, on the rocks as well as in the sand, and all these works are worthy of admiration.

Sports and aquatic activities

Can Picafort is the perfect place to practice nautical sports in Majorca such as sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing or scuba diving, especially in the summer season. In addition, Playa de Can Picafort offers play areas with slides for the younger guests as well as 2 marinas in Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina.

Cycling in Mallorca is popular amongst many professional cyclists, as the north of the island offers very beautiful landscapes, surrounded by nature and fantastic beaches, to enjoy by bike. We recommend the “ecovías Can Picafort – Santa Margalida”which are tourist cycling routes in Mallorca that cover the northern area of the island.

Playas de Mallorca

Visit the best beaches in Mallorca located in the north east of the island.
